WEST MEETS EAST Introduced by producer Rupert Smith-Bingham

7.30 in the clubroom £10

Dominic West and James Mallinson met as 13-year-olds at school in 1982. They’ve been friends ever since but their lives have taken very different directions. Dom went to drama school and today is a BAFTA award-winning actor, best known for playing McNulty in “The Wire”. Jim, meanwhile, spent half of the intervening years living with yogis in India, and the other half as an academic specialising in the history of yoga. He got his PhD from Oxford, and is currently Lecturer in Sanskrit at SOAS, London University. This film follows them as they travel deep into the heart of India’s traditional yogi sub-culture, and shows Jim being ordained as a Mahant at his order’s triennial gathering on the banks of the Ganges, the first time a westerner has ever received this honour.
