Matisse from Tate Modern and MoMA

Audiences are invited to enjoy an intimate, behind-the-scenes documentary about Matisse: The Cut-Outs, an exhibition hailed as the most successful in Tate Modern’s history! From snow flowers to dancers, circus scenes and a famous snail, this landmark show explores the final chapter in Matisse’s career as he began ‘carving into colour’ and his series of spectacular cut-outs were born.

Featuring commentary on selected works, a biography of the artist, interviews with experts, friends of the artist and rare archive footage of Matisse at work, the films been labelled ‘a must-see for any Matisse fans’. The film also includes exclusive footage of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, as they prepare for the arrival of the exhibition in the States and breathtaking specially commissioned performances by Royal Ballet principal dancer Zenaida Yanowsky and jazz musician Courtney Pine. Acclaimed British actor Simon Russell Beale brings insight and emotion to the words of Henri Matisse himself, while actor Rupert Young (Merlin) narrates.
